Antelope

After living in Wyoming for 15 years I've picked up some things about Antelope. Wyoming holds almost 75% of the worlds population of Antelope, they can be found in every part of the state. My experience is limited to the southwest portion of the state near La Barge, Big Piney area. This corner of the state has the most public land to hunt for any species. There is no shortage of game in these areas, so you are sure to find something to your liking. I prefer hunting Antelope in the areas just north and east of Fontenelle Reserveur. There is plenty of access and open spaces to find these speed demons of the sage brush.

I know that people say that Antelope meat isn't the tastiest of all game meats, I have found the care for the meat plays a big part in this problem. After the hunt is over and the work starts I have learned that time is critical more with these animals than others. I believe this to be partially because of the hot time of the year, as seasons start as early as mid August and end by mid October. If you get an Antelope don't handle the horns if you plan to handle any part of the meat. This can cause a 'funny' taste to the meat, also getting the animal skinned as soon as possible is important. I like to debone the animal in the field and put the meat in a cooler with ice to cool the meat quickly.

If you wish to try out the fastest animal on the North American continent give Wyoming a shot. You'll find plenty of game, and public ground to chase them. Antelope tags are draw only for residents, and nonresidents alike so you'll have to apply, applications are due in February for nonresidents, and in May for residents.

Off Season

Ok guys and gals I know we're a couple months away from any big game seasons, but this is the time that we're preparing for the upcoming year. Whether it be shooting the bow, or rifle, planting and working food plots, scouting new and old grounds, we all remain busy trying to get an advantage. I spend much of my off time shooting my bow, and guns. This is also a great time to test new things with our weapons including sights, scopes, releases, etc. before there are any day before season surprizes. I also like to read up on new tactics and tricks for my quarry of choice or even brush up on shooting techniques. maybe you do and maybe you don't, I find it keeps my excitement level high for the upcoming season. here are a few links to some fabulous resources and books to keep you at top form.
